Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet: Markus Rogan Sets Meet Record

WIENER NEUSTADT, Austria, November 25. DURING the first night of swimming at the Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet, Markus Rogan crushed the meet record in the men's 400 IM.

Rogan lowered the meet record in the men's 400 IM with a 4:08.28 for the win. That performance eclipsed the 4:10.60 set by Dinko Jukic back in 2008, but came up well short of Rogan's ninth-ranked season best of 4:06.84 from the Tokyo stop of the World Cup. Dominik Dur placed second in 4:13.69, while Jakub Maly wound up third in 4:14.59.

USA's Randall Bal topped the men's 50 back in 24.06, moving up to 14th in the world rankings. Pavel Sankovich finished second in 24.37, while Iskender Bashlakov took third in 24.82. Hunor Mate stopped the clock in 1:00.72 to win the men's 100 breast. Loris Facci (1:01.68) and Omer Aslanoglu (1:02.32) placed second and third in the finale.

Birgit Koschischek snared the women's 100 fly title in 58.48, grabbing 23rd in the world rankings in the process. Triin Aljand placed second in 58.69, while Lisa Zaiser touched third in 59.40.

Mads Glaesner earned the men's 200 free crown in 1:46.74. Arda Gurdal (1:47.84) and David Brandl (1:47.96) finished second and third. Sebastian Stoss captured the men's 200 back title in 1:58.09. Iskender Bashlakov finished second in 2:00.57, while Christian Zluga placed third in 2:01.15. Dinko Jukic took home the men's 100 fly crown in 52.55, while Martin Spitzer (53.66) and Pavel Sankovich (53.88) earned second and third-place honors.

Fabienne Nadarajah won the women's 50 back in 27.88, while Aneta Pechancova placed second in 28.54. Alzbeta Rehorkova finished third in 28.61. Jordis Steinegger captured the women's 400 IM in 4:41.43. Giulia Gabrielleschi (4:46.01) and Martina Eihenicka (4:49.55) rounded out the podium.

Tjasa Vozel touched out Buse Gunaydin, 1:08.22 to 1:08.24, for the women's 100 breast title. Lisa Zaiser earned third in 1:08.78. Erica Buratto won the women's 200 free in 1:58.66 with Eva Chaves-Diaz taking a close second in 1:58.78. Martina De Memme finished third in 1:59.51.

Margherita Panziera topped the women's 200 back in 2:11.14, while Uschi Halbreiner placed second in 2:12.93. Martina Elhenicka earned third in 2:15.20.
