Swedish Short Course Nationals: Stefan Nystrand, Sarah Sjostrom Post Top 10 Times

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, November 25. A day after Sarah Sjostrom knocked down a Swedish record in the women's 200 free, Sjostrom and Stefan Nystrand posted top-10 times in their respective events during day two of the Swedish Short Course Nationals.

Stefan Nystrand hit the wall in 21.49 to win the men's 50 free, and vault to sixth in the world rankings in the event. Petter Stymne placed second in 21.88, just off his 21st-ranked season best of 21.82, while Pontus Flodqvist placed third in 22.46.

Sarah Sjostrom followed up her Swedish record in the 200 free last night with a meet-record time of 2:09.40 in the women's 200 IM. That swim broke the 2:10.21 set by Uma Finnman in 2009, and put Sjostrom up to ninth in the world rankings. Petra Granlund also eclipsed the previous meet record with a second-place 2:09.70 for 13th in the rankings. Ida Sandin rounded out the top three in 2:10.67 to better her 21st-ranked season best of 2:10.84.

Jakob Dorch raced to 58.90 in the men's 100 breast, bettering the meet record of 59.02 set by Martin Gustavsson back in 2006. That swim pushed Dorch up to 15th in the world rankings. Johannes Skagius finished second in 1:00.72, while Niklas Tour earned third in 1:01.24.

Jennie Johansson lowered the meet record in the women's 50 breast with a 30.21. That effort cleared the 30.24 set by Emma Igelstrom back in 2002, but came up short of Johansson's third-ranked season best of 30.05 from the Stockholm stop of the World Cup. Joline Hostman placed second in 30.95 for 14th in the world rankings, while Henriette Brekke took third in 31.49.

Louise Hansson touched out Martina Granstrom, 26.42 to 26.52, for the women's 50 fly title. Hansson moved to 21st in the world rankings with the swim. Emma Svensson took third in 26.63. Granstrom bounced back in the women's 800 free with an 8:39.96 for the win. Laura Lajunen touched second in 8:46.07, while Rebecka Ekelund finished third in 8:49.78.

Alexander Linge won the men's 200 fly in 1:59.97, while Adam Ackerstierna finished second in 2:00.00. Eric Smedlund picked up third in 2:01.31. Simon Sjodin clinched the men's 200 back title in 1:55.66. Mattias Carlsson took second in 1:55.95, while Pontus Renholm wound up third in 1:56.44.

In relay action, Simon Sjodin, Niklas Tour, Pontus Flodqvist and Petter Stymne won the men's 200 medley relay in 1:36.48. Josefin Lindkvist, Ida Sandin, Petra Granlund and Gabriella Fagundez claimed the women's 400 free relay in 3:37.53. Radovan Siljevski, Petter Stymne, Peter Edvardsson and Simon Sjodin earned the men's 800 free relay crown in 7:14.17.
