All Africa Games: South Africa Nearly Sweeps Gold on Final Day

MAPUTO, Mozambique, September 10. THE All Africa Games came to a close with South Africa dominating on the final day.

South Africa's Mandy Loots set a meet record in the women's200 fly with a winning time of 2:12.46. Teammate Bianca Meyer finished second in 2:16.66, while Algeria's Sarah Hadj earned third in 2:20.61.

South Africa's Gideon Louw hit the wall in 22.34 to set a meet record in the men's 50 free win. Kenya's David Dunford (22.71) and Jason Dunford (22.87) completed the podium.

South Africa's Chad Le Clos posted a meet-record 2:00.70 in the men's 200 IM for the win. South Africa's Darian Townsend (2:01.76) and Tunisia's Taki Mrabet (2:03.46) earned second and third.

South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge clocked a meet-record 17:03.22 to win the women's 1500 free. Algeria's Melia Mghezzi touched second in 17:21.95, while Seychelles' Shrone Austin finished third in 17:27.76.

Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry raced to victory in the women's 200 back with a 2:12.40. South Africa's Mandy Loots touched second in 2:16.68, while teammate Natasha De Vos earned third in 2:18.18.

In multi-disability events, Natalie Du Toit was listed first in the women's 200 IM with a 2:35.01, while Kevin Paul was listed first in the men's 200 IM with a 2:19.05.

South Africa's Charl Crous, Darian Townsend, Chad Le Clos and Gideon Louw closed out the meet with a winning time of 3:46.74 in the men's 400 medley relay.
