All Africa Games: Mandy Loots, Ahmed Mathlouthi Set Meet Records

MAPUTO, Mozambique, September 8. THE All Africa Games kept rolling with three more meet records, including a pair individually and one in the men's 400 free relay today.

Mandy Loots cruised to victory in the women's 100 fly with a 59.86. That swim bettered her 2007 meet mark of 1:00.09. Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry turned in a second-place 1:02.20. South Africa's Bianca Meyer earned third in 1:03.14.

Tunisia's Ahmed Mathlouthi dominated the men's 400 free with a winning time of 3:54.03. That effort bested the meet record of 3:55.29 set by Troyden Prinsloo back in 2007. South Africa's Riaan Schoeman finished second in 3:58.49, while compatriot Mark Randall wound up third in 3:59.82.

South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon picked up the women's 100 breast title in 1:10.40, while Tunisia's Sarra Lajnef placed second in 1:12.78. Zimbabwe's Samantha Welch finished third in 1:15.39. Meanwhile, Tunisia's Taki Mrabet (2:16.51) and Wassim Elloumi (2:18.58) finished 1-2 in the men's 200 breast. Algeria's Sofiane Daid claimed third in 2:19.74.

South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge claimed the women's 800 free title in 8:54.64. Compatriot Rene Warnes took second in 8:59.23, while Seychelles' Shrone Austin earned third in 9:08.10.

South Africa's Leith Shankland, Chad Le Clos, Gideon Louw and Darian Townsend won the men's 400 free relay in a meet-record time of 3:19.42. That performance erased the 3:22.52 set by South Africa in 2007.

In multi-disability events, South Africa's Natalie Du Toit was listed first in the women's 100 free with a 1:03.24. Kevin Paul of South Africa was listed first in the men's 100 free with a 55.44.
