SHENZHEN, China, August 18. THE World University Games kept rolling as USA's Jenny Connolly downed the meet records in the women's 50 back and 100 backs, while China won the relay in record time. The meet is taking place in long course meter format.

Connolly edged Belarus' Aliaksandra Herasimenia, 27.92 to 27.93, in the women's 50 back as both cleared Connolly's meet record of 28.13 set earlier in the meet. Connolly improved to third in the world with the swim, while Herasimenia tied her previous season best that is tied for fourth in the world rankings. Australia's Grace Loh finished third tonight in 28.37, shy of her 12th-ranked season best of 28.15 from Australian Nationals in April.

China's Gao Chang (1:01.59), Sun Ye (1:06.81), Lu Ying (57.52) and Tang Yi (53.32) won the women's 400 medley relay in 3:59.15. That swim beat the meet record of 4:01.90 set by the U.S. back in 2009. USA's Jenny Connolly (1:00.21), Annie Chandler (1:07.40), Lyndsay DePaul (58.84) and Megan Romano (53.70) earned second with a time of 4:00.15, with Connolly's time lowering the meet record in the 100 back. Japan's Shiho Sakai (1:00.41), Satomi Suzuki (1:07.38), Tomoyo Fukuda (58.92) and Yayoi Matsumoto (54.27) earned third in 4:00.98.

Hungary's Laszlo Cseh topped the men's 400 IM in 4:12.67, missing the meet record of 4:12.28 set by Mateusz Matczak in 2009. Cseh's top swim this year is a third-ranked 4:11.22 from the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum in June. Japan's Yuya Horihata placed second in 4:13.66, well short of his sixth-ranked season best of 4:11.98 from Worlds. USA's William Harris completed the podium with a 19th-ranked 4:15.40.

USA's Haley Anderson (16:21.72) and Spain's Melania Costa Schmid (16:21.79) moved to 21st and 22nd in the world in the women's 1500 free with their first and second place efforts. New Zealand's Lauren Boyle wound up third in 16:26.37.

New Zealand's Glenn Snyders cruised to victory in the men's 50 breast with a 27.37, short of Kevin Swander's meet record of 27.14 from 2009. Snyders improved to seventh in the world with his performance tonight. Brazil's Joao Gomes Jr. placed second in 27.60, while Italy's Mattia Pesce finished third in 27.80. Gomes missed his 12th-ranked season best of 27.58, while Pesce took 20th in the world rankings.

Great Britain's Jessica Dickons touched out Japan's Natsumi Hoshi, 2:08.91 to 2:08.94, for the women's 200 fly crown. Dickons improved to 23rd in the world rankings with her swim, upsetting Hoshi, who had a fifth-ranked season best of 2:05.91 to her credit. Korea's Hye Ra Choi placed third in 2:09.35.

USA's Matt McLean nearly added a second meet record for the night with a 1:47.44 to win the men's 200 free. That swim just missed the 1:47.42 set by Adam Ritter in 2007, and pushed McLean to 17th in the world rankings in the event. France's Clement Lefert touched second in 1:47.78, while Japan's Sho Uchida earned third in 1:49.06.
