World University Games, Open Water: Italy Sweeps 10K Titles

SHENZHEN, China, August 12. THE first open water race featured an Italian sweep of the gold medals at the World University Games.

Italy's Simone Ruffini claimed the men's 10K title in 1:58:00.747, while Russia's Kiriil Abrosimov took second in 2:00:03.359. Japan's Yasunari Hirai rounded out the podium with a third-place 2:00:05.548. Connor Signorin (2:00:26.648) and Ryan Feeley (2:05:02.282) placed seventh and 14th for the U.S.

Italy's Rachele Bruni captured the women's 10K in 2:06:49.314, while Germany's Nadine Reichert finished second in 2:07:29.219. Italy's Alice Franco completed the top three with a third-place time of 2:08:42.772. Tristin Baxter (2:13:04.682) and Damaris Iriondo (2:14:10.968) placed 12th and 16th for the U.S.
