LAUSANNE, Switzerland, January 22. THE team of Spain, 2013 world champion, got its second victory in the 2014 edition of the FINA Women’s Water Polo World League, after defeating Great Britain in one of the games of the third round of the European preliminaries held on January 21. In the other match of the day, Greece was stronger than Hungary, thus obtaining its first win of the season.

In Barcelona, the host team started the game in a convincing way, concluding the first period with a comfortable advantage of 6-1. The second and third quarters were more balanced (1-1 and 2-2, respectively), but a strong finish (4-1) from the Iberians sealed the final result at 13-5. In their first match, Spain had already defeated Russia, while Great Britain accumulates two losses.

In Athens, the Hellenic squad needed a victory after its initial defeat against Italy, and things looked pretty good after the first quarter – 3-1 for the host team. Despite recovering well in the second period (5-2 for the Magyars), the team of Hungary suffered a huge pressure in the third (6-3 for Greece) and fourth (3-2) periods, losing by 14-11. Christina Tsoukala was decisive in her team’s triumph, scoring six goals.
