Montenegro Remains in Top Spot of FINA Men’s Water Polo World League

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, December 11. THE second round of matches for the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League 2014 was held on December 10, 2013 in Europe. The teams of Serbia, Greece, Montenegro and Germany walked away with victories.
In Group A, 2013 World League winner Serbia crushed visiting Romania in Belgrade, winning 18-6. In Group B, Greece proved tremendous against Croatia, beating the Olympic champions in Zagreb 12-11 after penalties. In Group C, World number 2 Montenegro defeated Olympic silver medallist Italy 11-8 in Budva while Germany was too strong for Slovakia in Hamburg, scoring 10-9.

The next rounds will be held in 2014: January 14, February 11, March 11, April 2 and 15.

The composition of the European Groups of the 2014 Men’s World League is as follows:
GROUP A — Romania, Russia, Serbia
GROUP B — Croatia, Greece, Hungary
GROUP C — Germany, Italy, Montenegro, Slovakia

Two preliminary rounds for the Americas and Asia/Oceania will be held in 2014 (locations to be confirmed) while Dubai (UAE) will host the Super Final from June 16-21, 2014.

Provisional rankings:
GROUP A: SRB, 3 pts (1 win); RUS, 3 (1W); ROU, 0 (2 losses)
GROUP B: HUN, 3 pts (1W); GRE, 2 (1W, 1L); CRO, 1 (1L)
GROUP C: MNE 6 pts (2W), ITA, 3 (1W, 1L); GER, 0 (1W, 1L); SVK, 0 (2L)

Next round (January 14, 2014):
Group A: RUS-SRB (city to be announced)
Group B: CRO-HUN (city to be announced)
Group C: ITA-SVK (Bergamo) & MNE-GER (Herceg Novi)
