Race Video: Watch Reece Whitley Obliterate 200 Breast National Age Group Record

LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, July 20. CONTINUING to show amazing potential in the 200 long course breaststroke as a 14-year-old, Reece Whitley lowered his own 13-14 national age group record in the event at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships to an unfathomable 2:16.48.

Whitley’s time won the event against 19-year-old Michael McBryan and his 2:18.36. Whitley already owned the mark with a 2:19.74 from the TYR Bolles Summer Invitational on June 29, where he had spent a few weeks training with the Bolles School Sharks. It would appear the training is paying off. Before the June 29 swim, Whitley’s best time was 2:23.45 from 2013.

In comparing splits from his previous swim, it appears Whitley had much more in the tank tonight in the final 100 meters:

June 29 (100 splits only available): 1:06.59, 1:13.15
July 16: 1:06.50, 1:09.98
(50-meter splits: 32.32, 34.18, 35.24, 34.74)

With Whitley winding down his final long course season in the 13-14 age group (he turns 15 in February), he’s already putting a scare into Matt Elliott’s 2:14.67, which stands as the national age group record for the 15-16 age group.
