Joao De Lucca Captures 200 Free Title At Greensboro Sectionals

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, July 18. JOAO De Lucca won the men’s 200 free, while Hannah Moore and Brandon Flynn each picked up their second win of the meet during the second night of racing at the Speedo Champions Series sectional meet at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Kendal Casey of the University of Kentucky took home the first individual title of the evening, moving up three spots from her morning swim to top the field in the women’s 200 free with a 2:01.91. Mary Griffith of Tennessee Aquatics came in second in 2:02.47, just in front of YMCA of the Triangle Area’s Hannah Moore, who touched third in 2:02.58. Cardinal Aquatics’ Joao De Lucca, the 2013 and 2014 NCAA champion in the men’s 200 free, was the class of the field in the men’s final as he stopped the clock in 1:49.14. David Williams of Wolfpack Elite out-touched teammate Soeren Dahl for second, 1:50.65 to 1:50.73.

In the women’s 100 back final, four swimmers had a legitimate shot to win as the race moved to the final 50. Lakeside’s Asia Seidt got her hand on the wall first at the finish with a time of 1:02.44, not far ahead of Cardinal Aquatics’ Kenzie Buss (1:02.68). Bridgette Alexander of the University of Kentucky rounded out the top three in 1:02.81. Denver Swim Academy’s Hennessey Stuart, who’s headed to NC State in the fall, dominated the men’s 100 back with a 55.82, well ahead of Cardinal Aquatics’ Nick Hasemann (56.66). Ryan Wilkinson from Queens University touched right behind in 56.68.

Hannah Moore of the YMCA of the Triangle Area won her second event of the meet in the 400 IM after capturing the 800 free title last night. Moore dominated the event, winning by seven seconds in 4:47.18. Victoria Mitchell of Marlins of Raleigh finished a distant second at 4:54.27 with Madison Burns of North Carolina Aquatic Club right on her heels at 4:54.29. Brandon Flynn of the University of Kentucky duplicated that feat in the next event. Flynn, who won the men’s 800 free last night, touched first in the 400 IM tonight in 4:25.12. Marko Blazevski of SwimMAC Carolina placed second in 4:25.48, while Nathaniel Carr of Club Mountaineer Aquatics came in third with a 4:28.96.

Timed finals of the women’s and men’s 400 free relay wrapped up the second night of action. Lakeside’s foursome of Asia Seidt, Monica McGrath, Cameron Brown and Brooke Bauer earned the victory in the women’s race with a 3:52.54. SwimMAC Carolina’s Jessica Merritt, Elsa Welshofer, Maria Sheridan and Heather Merritt claimed second in 3:54.53, while Marlins of Raleigh’s Dominique Quintero, Victoria Mitchell, Emily Dykstra and Chloe Mikles touched third in 3:58.23. Meanwhile, Marlins of Raleigh captured the men’s relay win by a slim .08 over Lakeside. Scott Johnson, Justin Ress, Tyler Silver and Collier Cobb out-touched Noah Johnston, Tyler Sullivan, Lee Bradley and Heyward Harrison, 3:32.16 to 3:32.24. Club Mountaineer Aquatics, led by Miles Molinaro, James Hickey, Frank Csonka and Timothy Squires, placed third in 3:35.54.
