SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, May 24. ROLAND Schoeman, the South African Olympian currently training at Phoenix Swim Club, raced his way to a pair of titles tonight at the Cactus Classic.

Schoeman, who already has been a 14th-ranked 22.04 this year at the South African Nationals, put in an easy speed time of 22.76 to win the men's 50-meter free tonight. Scottsdale's Jack Blake, 15, took second in the splash-and-dash with a 23.66, while Max Yakubovich took third in 24.19. Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers surprisingly fell to fourth in 24.26, but has been serving as more of an ambassador here in Scottsdale instead of a fully-focused competitor.

Schoeman doubled up with a 54.05 to win the men's 100-meter fly tonight, while Zac Dalby took second a full two seconds back with a 56.05. Ryan Hoffer, 15, checked in with a third-place effort of 57.07 in the fly.

Grevers bounced back in the men's 50-meter back, where the 6-8 Gentle Giant not only has a natural advantage but is amazing at his technique. He won the sprint back in 26.36 with Tucson Ford teammate Hunter Thompson finishing second in 28.46. Blake picked up another top three with a third-place 28.77.

Tucson Ford's Margo Geer demonstrated some consistency today in the women's 50-meter free with a 26.76 to win the finale after posting the same time in prelims. Melanie Busch checked in second with a 26.97, while Tucson Ford's Bonnie Brandon placed third in 27.03. Brandon immediately returned to the water to win the women's 50-meter back in 31.09. Samantha Fazio and Melanie Busch tied for second with matching 31.22s.

Tucson Ford's Sara Borendame clinched the women's 200-meter breast title in 2:42.93 with Tory Houston taking second in 2:43.45. Taylor Shewchuk finished third overall in 2:46.40. Tyhibaut Capitaine took home the men's 200-meter breast title in 2:21.20 with Andrew Sovero (2:30.51) and Gage Crosby (2:32.75) placing second and third for Tucson Ford.

Tucson Ford's Elizabeth Pepper snagged the women's 100-meter fly title tonight in 1:02.97 with Tristin Baxter (1:03.28) and Lori Layne Kremer (1:04.24) rounding out the top three.
