CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, May 16. FOR the first time since taking nearly two months away from the sport, the Greatest of All Time Michael Phelps tasted his first victory in a competition as he snared the men's 100-meter fly title at the Arena Grand Prix in Charlotte.

Phelps posted a 52.13 to win the championship heat, matching his sixth-ranked time from the Mesa stop at the Arena Grand Prix, demonstrating that he has some strong consistency even in this early form in his comeback. Tonight's win is his first since the 2012 London Olympics, even though he's still not too thrilled with the time based his post-race interview.

Pavel Sankovich checked in with a time of 52.72 just outside of the top 20, while Joseph Schooling placed third in 52.95.

Thiago Pereira (53.65), Tim Phillips (53.97), Dylan Bosch (54.05), Mario Todorovic (54.46) and Ben Colley (54.70) also swam in the finale with superstar Phelps.

USA Swimming also released Phelps' other prelim swims from this morning in the 200 free and 100 fly.
