Swimming World Throwback Thursday Video: Relive An April Fool’s Joke Featuring Tyler Clary!

PHOENIX, Arizona, April 3. APRIL Fool’s Day is always an exciting time for people on the Internet. Sometimes the jokes are so outlandish they can’t be believed. Other times, they might just be executed so well that many believe it until the very end.

In 2009, SwimmingWorld.TV worked with newly-minted NCAA Swimmer of the Meet Tyler Clary to break some “news” regarding his status in the sport after winning the 400 IM and 200 backstroke. In that show, Clary announced his retirement from the sport, wanting to go out at the top of his game.

Thankfully, that announcement was an April Fool’s joke. Clary continues to be one of the top swimmers in the world, earning Olympic gold in the 200 back in 2012 and remaining one of the top IM swimmers in history.

Go back in time to one of our favorite April Fool’s pranks for our Throwback Thursday video!
