Reece Whitley Obliterates National Age Group Record in 200 Breast

SEWELL, New Jersey, March 14. PENN Charter’s Reece Whitley just obliterated the 13-14 U.S. National Age Group record in the 13-14 200-yard breaststroke while swimming at the Middle Atlantic Junior Olympics.

Whitley, who entered the day with the age group mark at 2:00.14 from last year, threw down an epic 1:58.39 for the win.

The 14-year-old swimmer split the race 26.89, 56.55 (29.66), 1:27.31 (30.76), 1:58.39 (31.08). Whitley is a gentle giant, measuring in at more than six feet tall and growing daily. He also still owns the 11-12 100 breast (59.90) and 200 breast (2:09.40) records.

Whitley has been a bit overshadowed by 14-year-old professional swimmer Michael Andrew, largely due to the fact that he competes much less often and is a specialist. But, Whitley’s abilities in the pool are self-evident when he does compete.
