Emily Brunemann, Michael Klueh Open Plantation Sectionals With Wins

KNOXVILLE, TN - December 5, 2013 - Michael Klueh competes in the 500 Yard Freestyle during the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee

PLANTATION, Florida, March 13. CLUB Wolverine’s Emily Brunemann and Michael Klueh swept the distance freestyle events and four different teams won a relay to open the first day of racing at the Plantation Speedo Champions Series sectional meet.

The first night of competition at the Plantation Aquatic Complex featured timed finals in the women’s and men’s 1500 freestyle, 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. Club Wolverine’s Emily Brunemann collected the first title up for grabs, touching first in the women’s mile by 15 seconds in 16:54.73. Melissa Marinheiro of South Florida claimed second place honors with a time of 17:10.38, while Daniella Vandenberg of Azura Florida Aquatics rounded out the top three in 17:59.44.

Michael Klueh made it a sweep of the distance events for Club Wolverine with a winning time of 8:08.78 in the men’s 800 free. He finished about 12 seconds in front of Azura Florida’s Marelo Acosta, who came in at 8:20.24. Acosta’s teammate, Yoelvis Pedraza, finished right behind in third with an 8:20.53.

Marlin Aquatic’s foursome of Emma Ball, Genevieve Robertson, Danielle D’Aoust and Samantha Stratford posted the only sub-two minute swim in the women’s 200 medley relay with a 1:59.10. South Florida’s Melissa Marinheiro, Alia Atkinson, Maria Lopez and Olivia Katcher took second in 2:00.87, followed by Pine Crest’s Miriyam Ghali, Lindsey Swartz, Caroline Nava and Marta Ciesla (2:02.57).

In the men’s 200 medley relay, Azura Florida went 1-2 in times of 1:48.06 and 1:50.14, respectively. Mateo Gonzalez, Alexander Morgan, Luis Martinez and Carlos Herrera made up the A squad, while Yoelvis Pedraza, Marco Guarente, Arvin Moradi and Joshua Romany swam on the B relay. The Blue Dolfins, led by Zachary Poti, Alex Kimpel, Noah Hensley and Jackson Auer, took third in 1:50.70.

The battle for the women’s 200 free relay title came down to the finish, as South Florida’s Maria Lopez, Alia Atkinson, Kathleen Golding and Melissa Marinheiro out-touched Pine Crest’s Marta Ciesla, Caroline Nava, Hannah Veale and Lindsey Swartz, 1:49.40 to 1:49.48. The Blue Dolfins picked up third in 1:53.69 with Leah Sims, Julie Cates, Megan Reuter and Kelsey Hahn.

Night one of competition concluded with the men’s 200 free relay. Noah Hensley, Zachary Poti, John Fulginiti and Jackson Auer from Blue Dolfins topped the field in 1:38.79; Azura Florida took second thanks to the efforts of Luis Martinez, Mateo Gonzalez, Arvin Moradi and Alexander Morgan (1:39.70). Swim Fort Lauderdale rounded out the top three as Raphael Marcoux, Enzo Pazos, Marco Hosfeld and Vicente Andrade touched in 1:40.93.
