Big Swims From Wasatch Front Fish Market at Utah Senior State Championships

SAINT GEORGE, Utah, February 27. WASATCH Front Fish Market dominated the Utah Swimming Senior State Championships from start to finish racking up 1500 points to Hilltop Aquatics Swim Team’s 842. Southern Utah Swimming Association finished third with 709 points.

The preliminary session concluded on Friday with the women’s and men’s timed final 1650 free. Alandra McDowell of Park City Swimming (17:43.25) held off Southern Utah Swimming Association’s Amelia Draney, (17:46.86) to win the event. Trey Freeman, Wasatch Front Fish Market, (16:07.62) finished ahead of fellow teammate James Sorensen, WFFM, (16:35.96).

The finals competition opened with the 200 Medley Relay. Wasatch Front Fish Market (Rhyan White, Tyler Stephenson, Lillian Moore and Abbey Sorensen) bested the competition in the record-breaking time of 1:45.99. Not to be outdone the WFFM men’s team of Trey Freeman, Jonah Simon, Hunter Neal and James Sorensen posted a time of 1:38.88.

Individual events of the night began with the dominating performance by Lillian Moore (WFFM) besting fellow teammate Rhyan White 55.35 to 57.83. in the 100 fly. Jonathan Shawgo, (Lehi Aquatics Swim Team), 51.95 posted a strong finish with 51.95 to Ethan Pollack’s (Hilltop Aquatic Swim Team) 52.32. Hannah Hansen, (Lehi Aquatics Swim Team) controlled the 200 breast for the entire race touching the wall at 2:19.98. Catherine Hampton, (Cottonwood Heights Aquatic Club) second to the wall hitting at 2:26.27. On the men’s side John Morris of Utah Valley Aquatics (2:11.79) held off Parker Freeman, (HAST) 2:12.45.

The splash and dash 50 free found Abbey Sorensen, (WFFM) 24.25 out touching Katie Smith, (HAST) 24.45 and Claire Jackson (West Valley Aquatics) 24.62. Regie Topham, (Devil Rays Aquatic Team), 21.92 best the field with Brandan Shelley (Kearns Youth Aquatic Team), 22.25 and Connor Anderson (UVRays), 22.57 rounding out the field.

Amelia Draney, (SUSA) 1:52.46 and James Sorensen (WFFM) 1:43.84 took home the 200 free crowns. Rhyan White, (WFFM) claimed the 100 back final as hers with a time of 55:05. James Sorensen, (WFFM) took the men’s title with a time of 53.77. Jinwon Bailar, (PCS) mounted a strong challenge with a time of 53.98. The individual events concluded for the night with Lillian Moore (WFFM), 4:32.29 edging out teammate Rhyan White, 4:35.41 in the 400 IM. John Morris, (UVRays) left the field behind posting a time of 4:12.90 to Chad Patterson’s, (UN-Wasatch County Swim Team) time of 4:20.12.

Fridays’s session concluded with the 400 free relays. Wasatch Front Fish Market (Claire Brooks, Lillian Moore, Tyler Stephenson, Abbey Sorensen) posted a time of 3:34.97. Hilltop Aquatics Swim Team (Katie Smith, Samantha Patterson, Miranda Graves, McKenna King) mounted a strong challenge with a time of 3:39.52. On the men’s side, Southern Utah Swimming Association, (Makai Smith, Spencer Bleazard, Nathan Wallace, Michael Pantelakis), 3:13.75 held off Utah Valley Aquatics, UVRAYS (Connor Anderson, Colton Christensen, Christopher McClain, John Morris) and their time of 3:15.75.

Day Two opened with Wasatch Front Fish Market (Rhyan White, Tyler Stephenson, Lillian Moore, Abbey Sorensen) returning to their record setting ways in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:55.76. The Wasatch Front Fish Market men’s team (James Sorensen, Jonah Simon, Hunter Neal, Trey Freeman) returned again as top finishers with a time of 3:35.37.

The 500 free found Amelia Draney returning with a dominating as first place finisher with a time of 5:03.39 to Hayley Hill’s (Devil Rays Aquatic Team) time of 5:14.53. James Sorensen, (WFFM), 4:42.17 found teammate Trey Freeman, (4:42.76) hot on his heels at the close of the race but it was not enough with Sorensen hitting the wall first.

Hannah Hansen, (Lehi Aquatics Swim Team) returned as the 100 breast queen, 1:05.42. Brandan Shelley, (KYAT) took it to the men’s field with a time of 59.91. Lillian Moore, (WFFM) took control of the 200 fly and posted a winning time of 2:06.51. Ethan Pollock, (HAST), 1:54.50 glided in with a controlling lead as well.

The 100 free again found Lillian Moore, (WFFM) atop the winner’s podium with a time of 52.99. Abbey Sorensen, (WFFM, 53.56) and Claire Jackson, (WVA, 53.63) rounded out the field. Regie Topham, (DRAT) 48.76 bested the field while James Sorensen, (WFFM, 48.95) out touched Connor Anderson, (UVRays, 48.97) for the closest finish of the night.

Hannah Hansen, (Lehi Aquatics Swim Team) was the 200 IM darling posting a winning time of 2:09.63. Ethan Pollack, (HAST) 1:59.54 was the men’s winner. Rhyan White, (WFFM) topped the 200 back field with a time of 1:59.57. On a quick turn around Ethan Pollack, (HAST) took control of the men’s event with a time of 1:53.67.

The night concluded with the 200 free relays. Wasatch Front Fish Market (Claire Brooks, Lillian Moore, Tyler Stephenson, Abbey Sorensen) returned to their winning ways with a time of 1:39.49. Southern Utah Swim Association (Lizz Dempsey, Megan Draney, Kristen Gross, Amelia Draney) mounted a strong challenge with a time of 1:40.02. Hilltop Aquatic Swim Team (McKenna King, Samantha Patterson, Miranda Graves, Katie Smith) finished a strong third at 1:42.09.

Southern Utah Swimming Association (Spencer Bleazard, Michael Pantelakis, Nathan Wallace, Makai Smith), 1:28.17 held off Wasatch Front Fish Market (Patrick Nordstrom, Hunter Neal, Trey Freeman, James Sorensen), 1:28.88 and Hilltop Aquatic Swim Team (Steven Okelberry, Parker Freeman, Ryan Mickelson, Ethan Pollack) finished third, 1:30.82.
