AUSTIN, Texas, January 19. THE outcome of the women's 400 IM final at the Arena Grand Prix stop in Austin was not in doubt after more than a minute, with Leverenz winning the race by nine seconds. But the Olympic medalist did not let up in her dominating victory, despite the urge to do so.

In this interview after her race, Leverenz talked about why she needed to still swim a strong race in Austin despite the easy win, and how it sets herself up for the end of the season. She also talks about being a postgrad at Cal-Berkeley, and how she still fits into the team atmosphere though she's not doing many of the things the college swimmers are doing.
