NOVA of Virginia Breaks 800 Freestyle Relay NAG, NCAP Also Under

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, December 13. IT isn’t often that two relay teams manage to blast past the same National Age Group record in the same night, in the same pool. That type of feat requires eight age group swimmers with enough talent to come together and swim faster than any quartet of swimmers has swam before.

On the first night of finals at the 2013 Speedo Tom Dolan Invitational, the NOVA A team and the NCAP A team both swam faster than the boy’s 13-14 NAG in the 800 yard freestyle relay.

City of Plano Swimmers (Seth Stubblefield, Cole Brewer, Zach Walters and Edward Hunt) set the previous record in 2008 at a 7:05.66. Though NOVA won the event in a 7:03.50, NCAP was also under the 2008 mark with its 7:04.62 second-place-worthy time.

NOVA’s relay team consisted of David Dixon, Campbell Nystrom, Matthew Whelan and Jacob Johnson. NCAP, meanwhile, relied on fast splits from Timothy Wu, Andres Alarcon, Jason Tang and Will Cumberland.
