Encounter With Fan Results in Major Knee Injury For Ryan Lochte

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, November 5. RYAN Lochte will be out of the pool for a lengthy period of time to repair the damage suffered after a fan rushed him during a seemingly innocent encounter during the Olympic champion’s visit to Florida.

USA Today is reporting that a female fan ran toward Lochte on the street on Sunday, and in the ensuing moments, Lochte hit his knee on the curb when the two toppled over. Lochte suffered a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) and a sprained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his left knee; the girl was unharmed.

Injuries such as the ones Lochte sustained take months to heal fully. It’s very likely he’ll sit out the USA Swimming nationals, as well as the Duel in the Pool, both of which are in December.

“His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes,” Lochte’s publicist said in a statement.
