Baylor’s Sam McHugh Downs Two More Facility Records

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee, November 4. BAYLOR’s Sam McHugh closed out his team’s hosted meet the Martha Bass Invitational with two more pool records yesterday after notching a trio of the facility marks on day one.

McHugh, who is remaining in state for college as a future Tennessee Volunteer in the Class of 2014, raced to a 1:50.96 in the 200-yard IM. That knocked nearly a second off the previous record of 1:51.7 that he has set back in February according to Baylor head coach Dan Flack.

McHugh returned later in the afternoon with a swift 1:49.27 in the 200-yard fly. That swim beat a 2004 mark of 1:49.7 set by Matt Bartlett.

On day one, McHugh first blasted a 1:40.30 in the 200-yard free, taking down the previous pool record of 1:40.6 held by Martin Grodzki. McHugh then clocked a 49.65 in the 100-yard fly to break the pool record of 50.0 previously owned by Reese Shirey. McHugh closed out the night with a 3:56.6 (official time not yet available) to demolish his previous mark of 4:03.2 in the 400-yard IM.
