Two-Time Olympian Chloe Sutton Accepts Invite to Team USA Duel in the Pool Roster

CARY, North Carolina, October 2. IT didn’t take Chloe Sutton long to land her first international roster spot after her switch from Mission Viejo in Calif., to IX3 Sports in N.C. Sutton informed Swimming World today that she has accepted a spot on Team USA for the Duel in the Pool to take place in December.

“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to represent the USA in Scotland at the 2013 Duel in the Pool,” Sutton told Swimming World. “It is a really fun, intense, and high energy meet that always puts out a lot of amazing swims. I can’t wait to see what Team USA and Europe are able to pull together this year. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be fun to watch!”

Sutton, a two-time Olympian having represented the Stars and Stripes in both open water and pool competition, gets to test out her newly-found underwaters during the short course meter competition against the European All Stars. Since moving to North Carolina as part of Charlie Houchin’s IX3 Sports initiative, Sutton has definitely been hitting her speed work incredibly hard.

Sutton has an incredibly long list of international team spots, having first made the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships as an open water swimmer. Ever since, she’s represented the Stars and Stripes in some form or fashion nearly every year.

Sutton was a part of Team USA’s victory over the European All-Stars in 2011 in Atlanta, Ga., and her time of 3:58.07 there in the 400-meter free (SC) happens to be her top time ever when comparing power points. So, while she’s definitely been fully focused on long course work throughout most of her career, she definitely has the potential to turn in a surprising sizzler during the Duel in the Pool this year.

The meet will take place Dec. 20-21 at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Footage from the meet will be televised by NBC as part of a two-hour show on Sunday, Dec. 22. The show will air from 4-6 p.m. ET.

A full roster for each team will be made public in early November with Team USA shooting for a November 1 release date.

Swimmers can compete in a maximum of six events (individual and relays), and each team may enter up to four swimmers per individual event and one relay. A running score will be kept combining the points earned by both women and men to determine the winning team. Team USA is 5-0 in these types of competitions.
