AUSTIN, Texas, September 14. IN some fun news out of Austin, Olympian Ricky Berens, who briefly retired following the 2012 London Olympics, continued to show his developing speed.

During practice yesterday, Berens ripped off a 19.50 anchor during Longhorn Aquatics practice, and Instagram user da_romo captured the end of the swim for his followers.

Berens has had a strong career, owning a pair of Olympic gold medals from his efforts in the 800-meter freestyle relay on behalf of the U.S. in 2008 and 2012. He also has a silver from the 400 free relay in 2012 as well.

Following his brief retirement, last year, Berens managed to add a fourth world title to his career tally as part of the 800 free relay at the World Championships in Barcelona. During his career, he helped Team USA to wins in the 400 and 800 free relays at the 2009 World Championships, and to a win in the 800 free relay in 2011.

The last year, however, Berens has made a concerted effort to increase his speed as he moves into national contention in the 100 free.
