Trojan Swim Club Stars Mingle With Hollywood Stars at Malibu Triathlon

MALIBU, California, September 9. FOUR members of the elite team at Trojan Swim Club in Los Angeles traveled to Malibu for the annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon, competing in the celebrity division with notable movie and TV stars on Sunday.

The triathlon features a “classic” edition, which consists of a half-mile ocean swim, 18-mile bike ride and four-mile run. The longer “international” triathlon features a 1.5-kilomter swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and 10-kilometer run. The classic distance is the more popular distance, and was where Trojan Swim Club stars participated.

Rebecca Soni, who is taking some time away from pool competition, helped the “For the Kids” squad win the mixed relay. Soni swam the course in 10 minutes, 38.63 seconds, then handed over duties to actor Eric Etebari, who completed the bike course in 49:14.21. Elton Lewis finished the triathlon with a run time of 24:30.72 for a total time of 1:27:05.02.

Max Jaben, an American-born swimmer who competes internationally for Israel, was part of the third-place team in the celebrity male division. As part of the “Grynders” team, he swam the ocean course in 8:14.07, the fastest swim in the celebrity division. He was followed by movie star James Marsden, who rode the course in 57:19.78. Event promoter Huston Powell wrapped up the team’s race with a 28:43.19 run for a total time of 1:37:15.46.

Mike Alexandrov, who recently competed for the United States at the World University Games, was part of the relay team comprised of two actors from the ABC sitcom “Suburgatory.” Alexandrov’s swim time of 8:42.94 was second overall in the celebrity division behind Jaben. Jeremy Sisto completed the bike course in a pedestrian 1:02:22.38, and Alan Tudyk ran the four-mile course in 29:25.64 for sixth-place overall in a time of 1:44:43.66.

Thiago Pereira, a double bronze medalist in the individual medleys at the world championships this year, was part of the eighth-place team from local TV station KTLA. Pereira swam the course in 9:05.72, followed by a 1:23:02.91 bike ride from KTLA reporter Sam Rubin and a 25:58.02 run from Leroy Thomas. The team’s total time was 2:03:31.16.

De Soto Sport won the men’s celebrity relay triathlon in a time of 1:19:19.36, made of a team that included surfer Sunny Garcia, professional cyclist Levi Leipheimer and musician Mike Malinin. De Soto Sport was the fastest male relay of the day across all divisions.

Evan Kraus won the classic individual triathlon competition with a 1:20:52.58. Also competing in the event was Alec WIlimovsky, younger brother of USA Swimming’s national open water team member Jordan Wilimovsky. Alec won the male 14-17 division with a 1:23:17.86.
