OXFORD, Ohio, July 23. THE Oxford stop of the Speedo Champions Series continued with the second night of competition.
Ohio State's Alexandra Norris came ever so close to clearing her lifetime best a pair of times in the women's 200-meter free today. Norris clocked a 2:02.12 in prelims, then won the finale in 2:02.59. Both swims came up just short of her 2:02.04 from the 2012 U.S. Open that stands as her personal best. Mason Manta Rays' Alisabeth Marsteller raced to second in 2:03.63 to break 2:04 for the first time. Ohio State's Kate Luchansky placed third in 2:04.56.
Lakeview's Clay Youngquist raced to a 1:51.02 to win his second title in as many days as part of the men's 200-meter freestyle finale. Club Wolverine's Andrew Henry placed second in 1:51.92, while QDD's Steven Hill checked in third in 1:52.74.
Plymouth-Canton's Miranda Tucker threw down a personal best in the women's 100-meter fly with a 1:01.50. That time clipped her previous best of 1:01.97 from another sectional in March. Ohio State's Ali Schmidtke finished a close second in 1:01.69, while Club Wolverine's Zoe Mattingly claimed third in 1:02.54.
Ohio State's Garrett Trebilcock raced to victory in the men's 100-meter fly with a 55.37, while Club Wolverine's Aaron Ghiglieri touched second in 55.53. Ohio State's Ryan Bubb rounded out the top three in 55.61 in what proved to be a close finish.
Dayton Raider Mary Carlson checked in with a 4:55.61 for the women's 400-meter IM crown. Club Wolverine's Marie Georger earned second-place honors in 4:57.36, while Redhawk's Kate Blodgett snared third with a time of 5:01.05.
QDD's Henry Campbell, just 16, whacked 10 seconds from his personal best in the men's 400-meter IM with a 4:26.88. That swim crushed his previous best of 4:36.10 from the 2013 Georgia Bulldog Spring Quad meet in May. CAC's Cooper Hodge finished second in 4:32.22, while Dayton Raider Brock Turner touched third in 4:33.27.
In relay action, Ohio State's Alexandra Norris (57.91), Aliena Schmidtke (56.53), Kathryn Luchansky (58.58) and Camey Rabold (58.54) topped the women's 400-meter free relay in 3:51.56, while Club Wolverine's Victor Zhang (53.36), Andrew Henry (51.07), Aaron Ghiglieri (52.70) and Franco Petrone took home the men's 400-meter free relay in 3:29.82.
