SANTA CLARITA, California, July 19. CANYONS and Aquazot took turns dominating the top of the podium tonight in individual events at the Santa Clarita stop of the Speedo Champions Series.

Canyons' Abbey Weitzeil, 16, led a threesome of teens in the 2:04s at the top of the podium for the women's 200-meter freestyle to start the evening. Weitzeil clocked a 2:04.24 for the win, while PSP's Kat Wickham, 17, took second in 2:04.57. Arden Hills' Claire Pinson, 15, placed third overall in 2:04.78.


Canyons' began tonight on fire with the first two golds as Niki Denisyako clocked a 1:52.21 to finish comfortably ahead of the pack in the men's 200-meter free. Roadrunner's Tomas Bruce hit the wall second in 1:53.15, while Terrapins' Michal Zyla, 16, earned third-place honors in 1:54.37.

Aquazot returned fire with a 400 IM sweep. Kendall Brown clocked a lifetime best 4:54.77 to win the women's 400-meter IM. The time surpassed her previous best of 4:55.04 from the 2012 TYR Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions. FAST's Lindsey Clary nearly copped her second title of the meet with a silver-winning 4:54.94, while Irvine NOVA's Brianna Weinstein rounded out the top three in 4:58.33.

Corey Okubo, the 10th-ranked recruit in the nation in the Class of 2014 according to CollegeSwimming.com, earned his third title in two days with a 4:23.06 to win the men's 400-meter IM for Aquazot. GWSC's Ryan Nelson placed a distant second in 4:27.97, while Okubo's teammate Ken Takahashi, 16, took third in 4:28.61.

In relay action, Irvine NOVA's Courtney Mykkanen, Brittany Kampfer, Michaela Merlihan and Meagan Popp controlled the women's 800-meter free relay from the get-go with an 8:24.15 for the win. Terrapins' Michal Zyla, Franklin Horpel, Peter Arnet and Nathan Barsanti rolled to the men's 800-meter free relay title in 7:47.90.
