SANTA CLARITA, California, July 17. IN a sparse night of action with just a pair of distance freestyle events, FAST's Lindsey Clary and Jerad Kaskawal took home the gold medals on offer at the Santa Clarita stop of the Speedo Champions Series.
Clary, whose brother Tyler is currently in Spain with the World Championship team for the Stars and Stripes, dropped five seconds from her personal best in the women's 800-meter free. She posted an 8:55.34, breaking the 9:00 barrier for the first time as she smashed her lifetime best of 9:00.05 from earlier this year in March. PASA's Kathryn Campbell placed second in 8:57.18, while Aquazots' Kendall Brown finished third in 9:01.75.
Kaskawal, meanwhile, also posted a lifetime best but just by a bit. He claimed the men's 1500-meter free in 16:02.13. That effort clipped his 16:02.73 from the Mel Zajac Jr. Meet earlier this year. Arden Hills' Jake Struckmeyer raced to a 16:11.48 personal best as well for second, while Aquazots' Alex Peterson snatched third in 16:15.63.
