RICHMOND, Virginia, July 5. NOVA of Virginia announced today that is has hired Jonathan Kaplan as its new senior-level coach. Kaplan heads to NOVA after a seven-year stint as the head coach of the Panama City Swim Team in Florida. His start date is in August.

During his time at PCST, Kaplan led the squad to its initial top-10 finish at the Southeastern Championships in 2011, and helped three swimmers make U.S. Nationals and 11 swimmers make U.S. Junior Nationals.

"Our entire staff is thrilled that Jonathan has chosen to join NOVA," NOVA Head Coach Geoff Brown said in a statement. "He will bring a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to our team; his experience in building PCST and his development of a successful lessons program are important aspects of the skill set we were seeking. NOVA has experienced great success since its formation, but I expect that Jonathan will add mightily to that tradition of excellence. I am certain that NOVA swimmers and families will share the enthusiasm our coaches have for this addition to our staff. 2013-2014 will be a most exciting season."

Prior to PCST, Kaplan also had coaching stops at Area Tallahassee, and at his alma mater at Florida State. HE also coached at Clemson and with the North Central Florida YMCA MAkos.

"For years I have been aware of the incredible success NOVA has enjoyed, and it has been intriguing watching the program grow and improve into one of the premier aquatics programs in the nation," Kaplan said in a statement. "In addition to its athletic dominance, I am thrilled to be a part of the NOVA family because of how dedicated the entire staff and membership are to building successful individuals through the sport of swimming. Our philosophies match perfectly, and I am eager to start working toward an even brighter NOVA future."
