PHOENIX, Arizona, May 23. THE nominations for the annual Teen Choice Awards in the United States features Olympic champions Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin in the running for the favorite male and female athletes.

Though the awards heavily favor celebrities in the entertainment industry, the ceremony does take time to recognize athletic accomplishments. Phelps is one of five nominees for "Choice Male Athlete," alongside soccer player David Beckham, basketball player LeBron James, football player Colin Kaepernick and snowboarder Shaun White.

Franklin is up against five other accomplished athletes in the "Choice Female Athlete" category. Olympic champion gymnast Gabby Douglas, Olympic champion soccer player Alex Morgan, race car driver Danica Patrick, skier Lindsey Vonn and tennis player Serena Williams are also in this category.

If you're 13-19 years old, you can go to the Teen Choice Awards home page and vote for your favorite movie, TV, music and fashion stars, but make sure to also vote for your favorite athletes!

The awards ceremony is set to air August 11.
