In effect, Phelps and Lewis are Baltimore brothers. Lewis spent the entirety of his professional football career in Baltimore playing for the Ravens (1996-2013). The 37-year-old announced his retirement earlier this season. With last night's 34-31 win, Lewis ended his career in the NFL on a high note.
Phelps got emotional when he met Lewis in the locker room after the Ravens' win.
Phelps tearfully embraced Lewis, telling media afterwards that Lewis had helped him in his career; referencing the passion they both share for their respective sports.
"I'm probably more emotional here," Phelps said, comparing watching Lewis play for the last time to retiring his swimming career at the London Olympics. "It's the last time I'll ever see him play. It's tough for Baltimore people to watch."
Lewis was all smiles when he told Phelps, "You gave me the formula!" Before giving him a kiss on the forehead. The two have spoken openly about their friendship.
