|PHOENIX, Arizona, October 10. MICHAEL Phelps continues to collect accolades for his accomplishments in the pool in 2012, landing on AskMen's list of athletes, entertainers and politicians making news this year.
Phelps, who won six medals at the 2012 Olympics to become the most decorated Olympian in history with 22 total medals, sits at No. 12 on the list of the website's Top 49 Men of 2012. James Bond, the fictional book and film character set to be featured in an upcoming movie, ranks at the top of the list.
Phelps is not the highest-ranked athlete in the list. Runner Usain Bolt of Jamaica holds that honor with his No. 2 placing. Bolt was termed the fastest man on land after repeating his wins in the 100- and 200-meter races in London. Phelps, however, is the only swimmer on the list.
Other men in the sports profession on the list include soccer coach Jose Mourinho (30), basketball player Lebron James (32), tennis player Andy Murray (33) and football player Tim Tebow (44).
Incidentally, U.S. presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney made the list. President Obama listed at No. 11, while Romney is No. 24.
With many media outlets starting to compile names for year-end lists, Phelps could reap a few more honors in the coming weeks. Could World Male Swimmer of the Year from Swimming World Magazine be one of them?
