Ryan Lochte Staying in Florida; Hollywood Dreams on Hold? -- September 27, 2012
PHOENIX, Arizona, September 27. RYAN Lochte's plan to relocate to southern California in this new Olympic cycle has been temporarily sidelined, as the Olympic superstar has announced that he's staying with his longtime coach Gregg Troy at the University of Florida.
An article published today by NBC Sports suggests that Lochte may still pack up and move cross-country, but for now, he's staying with Troy, where he's been getting back into training mode for the past week. Lochte and Troy have had one of the best swimmer-coach relationships in recent history, with Lochte coming to international prominence while a student-athlete at the University of Florida and later as a postgraduate athlete. Lochte has not publicly announced what meets he's planning to attend this fall, but he is eligible for the short course world championships in December, where he could defend the five individual titles he won in 2010. USA Swimming has not yet released the official roster for the world championship team.
Earlier today, the Russian swimming federation made an announcement on their website that Lochte was attending the Moscow stop of the FINA World Cup in mid-October, but Stateside, no one has made a similar confirmation that Lochte is participating in the meet.
Lochte made his intentions to move to California known shortly before the Olympics, though at the time nothing had been set in stone in terms of which team Lochte would train with, or what city he'd call home. He mentioned that the move would help him start a clothing line, an interest he has been pursuing for years.
In addition to settling into training after a month of celebrity appearances, Las Vegas match races with royalty and filming cameos, Lochte has been doing some charitable work. Recently he made a public service announcement with teammate Conor Dwyer for Water for People. The international nonprofit aims to bring sustainable drinking water resources to impoverished areas.
