Missy Franklin Named USA Swimming’s Swimmer of the Year

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, September 15. AT the final awards banquet of the United States Aquatic Sports Convention in Greensboro, N.C., Missy Franklin won USA Swimming's Swimmer of the Year award.

“Thank you so much for the incredible honor,” Franklin tweeted. “It means so much to me!”

Franklin has had a remarkable career trajectory since initially breaking out internationally last summer at the 2011 World Championships with three golds, a silver and a bronze. This year, Franklin dominated at the 2012 London Olympics with four golds and a silver in her first chance at Olympic glory. She claimed gold in the 100 and 200 back individually, while also being a member of the 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay triumphs. She also earned bronze as part of the U.S. 400 free relay.

The performance in London has had Franklin on a whirlwind publicity tour prior to heading back to Colorado for her senior year at Regis Jesuit High School. She still hasn't completely shut the door on going pro, but plans on going to college with her final list of schools being down to California, Georgia, Southern California and Texas. She already has made a recruiting trip to California.
