Team USA Wins Gold at World Juniors in Modern Pentathlon

DRZONKOW, Poland, September 5. TEAM USA brought home gold Monday at the Modern Pentathlon Junior World Championships (21 and under) in the three-person team relay event, as reported by Pentathlon.org. A modern pentathlon has five different events, including pistol shooting, fencing, a 200 meter freestyle swim, show jumping and a three-kilometer cross-country run.

The US team, which includes sisters Margaux and Isabella Isaksen and Sam Achterberg, came from a 45-second deficit to take the win by a full 24 seconds.

“I knew we could be quite strong so to come here and win our first junior world championships gold medal and really wonderful. My team shot and ran really well, so I got to run quite easy the last lap. I think of the Pentathlon as 5 different puzzle pieces, so it all had to come together well and it did today,” said Margaux Isaksen after the event.

The team from Poland won silver, and Britain earned bronze in the event.
