YMCA Short Course Nationals: Courtney Weaver Edges YMCA Record

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, April 3. DAY two of the YMCA Short Course National Championships featured another YMCA record taking a tumble. Meanwhile, Middle Tyger led the combined team tally with 414 points. Sarasota (374), York (352), Lakeland Hills (278) and Somerset Hills (271) rounded out the top five in the combined team race.

Greater Flint's Courtney Weaver pipped the YMCA record in the women's 100 fly with a time of 53.26. That swim lowered the 53.28 set by Haley Lips back in 2009. Northwest's Caitlin Casazza turned in a second-place 54.91, while York's Sada Stewart earned third in 54.98. Red Bank's Sam Lynch edged Cheshire's Joseph Shepley, 48.94 to 49.09, in the men's 100 fly. Wyckoff's Leo Lim rounded out the top three in 49.63.

Sarasota's Danielle Valley dominated the women's 1000 free with a time of 9:43.62. York's Hali Flickinger finished well behind with a second-place 9:49.34, while Macomb's Marah Pugh touched third in 9:53.76. York's Noah Martin clinched the men's 1000 free in 9:03.39. Sarasota's Derek Pridemore posted a second-place 9:06.83, while Somerset Hills' Bradley Wachenfeld clocked a third-place 9:17.19.

Sarasota's Bethany Leap clocked a 2:15.73 to win the women's 200 breast. Lakeland Hills' Abby Fisher finished second in 2:16.58, while Boise City's Maddie Eyolfson wound up third in 2:16.65. Wilton's Eric Ronda topped the men's 200 breast in 1:58.82, while Green Bay's John Bushman placed second in 1:59.51. Wyckoff's Leo Lim picked up third in 2:02.43.

Schroeder's Alexandra Meyers won the women's 200 free in 1:46.98, while Sarasota's Ashlee Linn posted a second-place time of 1:47.13, while Middle Tyger's Haley Lips finished third in 1:48.48. Auglaize Mercer's Josh Fleagle clinched the men's 200 free title in 1:37.91. Sarasota's Alexander Katz (1:38.18) and Lakeland Hills' Luke Papendick (1:38.51) completed the top three.

Middle Tyger's Katrina Konopka, Kendall Crawford, Danielle Galyer and Haley Lips won the women's 400 free relay in 3:23.10, while York's Meghan Small, Hali Flickinger, Niki Price and Sada Stewart finished second in 3:24.56. Sarasota's Ashlee Linn, Danielle Valley, Taylor Katz and Sophie Cattermole placed third in 3:25.55.

Triangle Area's Colin Ellington, Alex Mathews, Joe Bonk and Macon Crowder captured the men's 400 free relay in 3:03.95. Somerset Hills' James Ross, Bradley Wachenfeld, William LaCosta and Alex Mango placed second in 3:04.65. Upper Main Line's Nic Graesser, Matt Luminais, Shane McKenzie and Michael Ashmead took third in 3:04.86.
