Purdue Invitational: Brazilians Dominate Podium

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, March 29. WITH the USA Swimming Grand Prix in Indianapolis overbooked, the Purdue Invitational is serving as the overflow meet for swimmers heading to the Hoosier State.

Swim Utah's Traycie Swartz claimed the women's 100 free title in a pool record of 55.82. That time bettered the 56.08 set by Andrea Hupman in 2008. SoFlo's Jessie Alcaide finished second in 57.28, while Fiat Minas' Manuella Lyrio picked up third in 57.41. Corinthians' Fernando Santos won the men's 100 free in 50.54, while Swim Utah's Nicholas Soedel snagged second in 51.40. James Turner tied Rodrigo Castro for third with matching 51.45s.

Morgan Noonan took home the women's 200 breast title in 2:37.36, while Corinthians' Michelle Schimmdt finished second in 2:38.58. Swim Utah's Nicole Ligeza posted a third-place 2:39.97 to round out the top three. Missouri's Igor Kozlovskij edged Purdue's Guillermo Blanco, 2:19.42 to 2:19.79, for the men's 200 breast title. Fiat Minas' Diego Santos turned in a third-place 2:20.01.

La Mirada's Samantha Shellem clipped Kat Bachrouche, 4:16.43 to 4:16.79, for the women's 400 free crown. Purdue's Megan Gallagher snagged third in 4:21.12. Notably, Manuella Lyrio won the B final in 4:19.42. Fiat Minas went 1-2 in the men's 400 free with Marco Oliveira winning in 3:55.52. Teammate Lucas Kanieski touched second in 3:57.76. Daniel Corley placed third in 4:02.00.

Davie Nadadores' Carol Colorado posted a 1:00.77 to win the women's 100 fly, while Fiat Minas' Dandara Antonio took second in 1:01.27. Corinthians' Yana Medeiros placed third in 1:02.09. Fiat Minas' Glauber Silva touched out Corinthians' Arthur Filho, 54.57 to 54.70, in the men's 100 fly. Purdue's Brendan Joyce wound up third in 55.39.
