COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, December 11. DURING The Tom Dolan Invitational, which was broadcast LIVE on SwimmingWorld.TV, a trio of U.S. National Age Group records fell.
The night after Corvallis' Jacob Pebley edged Bolles' Ryan Murphy, 1:40.79 to 1:40.90, in the boys 200-yard back at the USA Swimming Short Course Junior Nationals, Rockville-Montgomery's Jack Conger took a run at the 17-18 U.S. National Age Group record with a 1:40.41. That time bested the 1:40.53 set by Max Murphy back in 2009. Ryan, 16, meanwhile downed the 15-16 NAG record of 1:43.16 set by Conger last year. Conger's time tonight shot him up to 19th in the all time rankings. He is now the youngest male inside the top 20.
Meanwhile, Michael Andrew, 12, downed the 11-12 boys 100-yard IM NAG record in prelims with a 54.66. That effort cleared the 55.56 set by Tanner Kurz back in 2006. Andrew later won the finale in 55.05.
In the boys 11-12 200-yard medley relay, Rockville-Montgomery's Matthew Tiberino, 12, Kenneth Afolabi-Brown, 12, Devin Truong, 12, and Brandon Cu, 12, clocked a strong 1:48.06. That swim clipped the 1:48.37 set by Black Hawk's Nick Cordes, Nathan Hohnstein, Jordan Stokes and Jordan Wessels back in 2002.
