USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Tyler Clary Blitzes 200 Back For Win

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 3. FAST's Tyler Clary, the bronze medalist in the event at Worlds this summer, blitzed the field in the men's 200 back at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals. Clary posted a strong time of 1:56.41, the 19th-fastest performance in the world this year. Clary has six of the top 25 times with the effort. That gave him a second title this meet, after winning the 400 IM last night.

In a battle for second, Jacob Pebley clipped Matt Grevers, 1:58.30 to 1:58.35, to move to 25th in the world rankings. Nick Thoman (1:58.74), Eric Ress (1:58.95), Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or (2:00.19), Matt Thompson (2:01.39), Pedro Oliveira (2:01.46), Jack Conger (2:02.27) and Tobias Oriwol (2:03.04) placed fourth through 10th.

Arkady Vyatchanin edged Omar Pinzon, 1:59.54 to 1:59.81, for the B final win. David Russell (2:02.60), Yuri Samulich (2:02.75), Connor Green (2:02.97), Alexander Katz (2:03.39), Corey Okubo (2:04.10), Curtis Ogren (2:04.74), David Duggins (2:05.18) and Christian Yeager (2:07.32) posted the other consolation heat finishes.

Eugene Godsoe posted a 2:01.14 to win the C final, while Charles Francis finished second in 2:03.17. Kevin Stang (2:04.17), Robert Owen (2:04.54), Tynan Stewart (2:04.69), Adam Mania (2:05.07), Reese Shirey (2:05.46), Nelson Silva (2:05.61), Marco Loughran (2:05.67) and Joseph Ziegler (2:06.07) placed third through 10th in the bonus heat.
