USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Darian Townsend Edges Sebastien Rousseau for 200 IM Title

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 1. IN a close contest, Tucson Ford's Darian Townsend clipped Sebastien Rousseau, 1:59.27 to 1:59.55, for the men's 200 IM triumph at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals.

Townsend just missed his 15th-ranked 1:59.06 from April, while Rousseau picked up the 23rd ranking in the world. Trojan's Eric Shanteau placed third in 2:00.29, while FAST's Tyler Clary wound up fourth in 2:00.76. Jack Brown placed fifth in 2:00.87, while Ryan Lochte, who was just named Swimming World's World Swimmer of the Year, placed sixth in 2:01.42 while under some serious training. William Harris (2:01.48), Robert Margalis (2:01.49), Clark Burckle (2:03.22) and Adam Ritter (2:03.67) placed seventh through 10th.

Jacob Pebley raced to the B final win with a 2:02.14, while Joseph Bentz (2:02.76) and Tom Kremer (2:02.89) took second and third. Scott Weltz (2:03.22), Martin Liivamagi (2:03.60), Alex Tyler (2:03.90), Curtis Ogren (2:04.26), Marcin Tarczynski (2:04.86), Sean Mathews (2:05.73) and Maxwell Williamson (2:07.15) picked up the fourth through 10th place finishes in the B final.

Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or edged Josh Prenot, 2:03.34 to 2:03.73 for the C final win. Ben Hinshaw (2:04.99), Bart Steninger (2:05.27), Corey Okubo (2:05.46), Diogo Yabe (2:05.64), Conor Dwyer (2:05.70), Phillip Morrison (2:06.54), Alec Page (2:06.65) and Kyle Cormier (2:06.75) completed the bonus field.
