USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Yannick Agnel Makes It Back-to-Back for France

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 1. FOR the second consecutive event to start the USA Swimming Winter Nationals, France stood atop the podium as Yannick Agnel smashed the men's 400 free in Atlanta, Ga.

Agnel stopped the clock in 3:47.78, coming up well short of his third-ranked season best of 3:43.85 from French Nationals in March. FAST's Michael Klueh placed second in 3:50.56, while Ryan Cochrane earned third in 3:50.62. France's Clement Lefert also went 3:50 with a 3:50.85 for fourth.

Sebastien Rouault (3:51.26), Charlie Houchin (3:52.48), Matt McLean (3:52.73), Matias Koski (3:54.63), Robert Renwick (3:54.64) and Jeremy Bagshaw (3:56.78) rounded out the championship heat.

Peter Vanderkaay edged Alec Page, 3:55.36 to 3:55.43, for the B final victory. Michael Flach placed just behind with a 3:55.80, while Ryan Hinshaw finished fourth in 3:56.37. Adam DeJong (3:56.41), Adam Hinshaw (3:57.46), James Yoder (3:57.66), John Ellis (3:58.16), Michael Smit (3:58.33) and Ray Betuzzi (3:58.69) each swam on the consolation heat as well.

Conor Dwyer snared the C final win in 3:56.08, while Richard Charlesworth snared second in 3:57.03. Samuel Metz (3:57.80) and Robert Wise (3:59.43) joined them under 4:00. Max Jaben (4:00.60), Robert Looney (4:00.88), Sean Penhale (4:01.30), Brian Westlake (4:02.59), Derek Pridemore (4:02.65) and Kyle McIntee (4:07.61) completed the rest of the top 30 times.
