Kevin Nealon Named Golden Goggle Awards Host

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, October 29.THE 2011 USA Swimming Foundation today announced that comedian and television star Kevin Nealon will host the eighth-annual Golden Goggle Awards.

The event will take place Sunday, November 20 at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles and will honor the top swimmers from the United States' 2011 FINA World Championship team.

Nealon is best known for his nine-year stint on Saturday Night Live from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, along with appearances in several popular movies, including The Wedding Singer and Happy Gilmore. He is currently a cast member on the critically- acclaimed Showtime series "Weeds," and has authored several books. During his career, Nealon has received multiple Screen Actors Guild Award and Emmy Award nominations.

This year's USA Swimming Foundation's Golden Goggle Awards will honor the 2011 FINA World Championship team, which collected the Championship Team Trophy and topped the medal count in Shanghai, China with 31 medals (17 gold, six silver and eight bronze). Leading this year's ballot with four nominations each are World Championship gold medalists Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.), Michael Phelps (Baltimore, Md.) and Missy Franklin (Centennial, Colo.).

Awards will be presented in eight categories and are based on the top performances of the year. Award categories include: Breakout Performer of the Year, Perseverance Award, Coach of the Year, Relay Performance of the Year, Female Race of the Year, Male Race of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year.

Carolyn Dirks will also receive this year's "Impact Award" for her support of the USA Swimming Foundation's mission of saving lives and building champions.
