USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Conor Dwyer Wins 200 IM With Strong Back Half

PALO ALTO, California, August 5. LAKE Forest's Conor Dwyer put away the field with a sterling back half in the men's 200 IM at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Dwyer ripped through the field throughout the final 100 meters en route to a personal-best time of 1:59.19. That time pushed him to 15th in the world rankings, and bettered his previous best of 1:59.34 set during prelims.

William Harris picked up second in 2:00.91, while Tucson Ford's Clark Burckle turned in a 2:01.10 for third overall. Hershey's David Nolan (2:01.14), Tucson Ford's Cory Chitwood (2:01.24), FAST's Robert Margalis (2:01.24), NBAC's Todd Patrick (2:01.35), Palo Alto's Ben Hinshaw (2:01.66), Longhorn's Austin Surhoff (2:02.40) and Club Wolverine's Kyle Whitaker (2:04.23) picked up the rest of the championship finale finishes.

Missouri's Jack Brown turned in a 2:00.82 to capture the B final by nearly a second, a time that would have captured him second in the A final. NBAC's Andrew Cosgarea went sixth to first in the final 50 meters with a 28.33 to win the C final with a 2:02.22. Santa Maria's Josh Prenot finished second in the heat with a 2:02.24.
