USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Stanford Sets Meet Record in 400 Free Relay

PALO ALTO, California, August 3. STANFORD downed the women's 400 free relay meet record at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Stanford's Felicia Lee, Kate Dwelley, Samantha Woodward and Julia Smit won the race in 3:40.31 to finish the evening with a meet record. That performance cleared the 3:42.90 set at the 2006 USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Athens Bulldog's Shannon Vreeland, Morgan Scroggy, Chelsea Nauta and Megan Romano took second in 3:41.80, also under the former record, while Tucson Ford's Kait Flederbach, Margo Geer, Grace Finnegan and Sarah Denninghoff posted a 3:42.59 for third under the old standard.

California (3:43.84), Stanford B (3:44.38), Colorado Stars (3:44.52), Trojan (3:45.18) and Palo Alto (3:45.65) wrapped up the top eight. Missy Franklin anchored the Colorado Stars relay with a 54.28, while Jessica Hardy leadoff Trojan with a 54.97.
