PALO ALTO, California, August 3. STANFORD's Bobby Bollier put on a burst in the final 50 meters to win as some way outside smoke from lane 10 in the men's 200 fly at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Bollier raced home in 30.02 over the final 50 meters to win in 1:56.64, stealing the win from Club Wolverine's Dan Madwed (1:56.71). Madwed, in lane five, was likely focused on SwimMAC's Davis Tarwater (1:56.78), who was in lane six, and finished just .07 seconds back.

Thomas Luchsinger (1:57.01), Mark Dylla (1:58.19), Matt Bartlett (1:59.00), David Mosko (1:59.32), Tylerr Clary (1:59.58), Michael Flach (2:00.05) and Dakota Hodgson (2:00.41) completed the rest of the championship finale field.

Michael Phelps, who has won four out of the last six national titles in the event, withdrew from the meet after coming back from the FINA World Long Course Championships in Shanghai last week.

Palo Alto's Ben Hinshaw chopped more than three seconds from his personal best with a winning time of 2:00.26 in the B final. California's Tom Shields touched second in the consolation heat with a 2:00.56.

The C final proved to be extra competitive as less than two seconds separated winner Riley Martin (2:01.52) and the ninth-place finisher Cameron Martin (2:03.11). The top seven were separated by less than a second.
