Marathon Swimming At The 2012 London Olympics

HYDE PARK, England, December 26. THE proper term for the marathon swimming event at the 2012 London Olympics is the Olympic Marathon Swimming 10km. The event will be held in the Serpentine within Hyde Park, starting at 12 noon GMT on August 9th for the 25 female finalists and August 10th for the 25 male finalists.

The number of ticketed (paid) seats around the finish of the Olympic Marathon Swimming 10km along the shore of the Serpentine in Hyde Park is 3,000. With an estimated 20,000 other spectators milling about the venue in one of the free events at the Olympics, full Olympic security measures will be in place.

In a treat for Olympic fans, spectators will be able to watch the training sessions of the marathon swimmers and triathletes training in the Serpentine before their Olympic races. A schedule will be publicly available closer to the Games.

London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, known as LOCOG, is working closely with the Royal Parks that owns and manages Hyde Park, to ensure the water quality is as good as it can be during the Olympic Games. Although there was a bit of blue-green algae present before the triathlon and marathon swimming test events this summer, it was not present during the test events and did not impact either event.

With the attention of the world's sporting fans zeroed in on London in August 2012, the LOCOG staff will undoubtedly come through with a gold-medal performance in Hyde Park, the grandest global stage possible for the Olympic triathletes and marathon swimmers.
