Ana Marcela Cunha Takes Sprint at the King & Queen of the Sea

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil. December 9. ANA Marcela Cunha of Brazil bolted into the lead in the 800m sprint race at the King and Queen of the Sea event on Copacabana Beach, Brazil.

The 2011 world 25K champion proved that she has some quick speed, especially going in and out of the water. After leading into the first turn buoy, the Brazilian star tucked in behind Americans Christine Jennings and Ashley Twichell for the rest of the race – until the first few strokes toward the finish.

The start and finish of the women's sprint race the day before the 2011 King and Queen of the Sea (Rei e Rainha do Mar) are below.

Tomorrow before the the 4K King and Queen of the Sea championship, over 2000 amateurs will take to the same course before the male and female professional marathon swimmers are showcased on a special live television broadcast by TV Globo.
