Italy’s Martina Grimaldi Wins Women’s 10K at London Olympics Test Event

LONDON, England, August 13. DURING the first swim of the London Olympics Test Event, Italy's Martina Grimaldi captured the women's 10K title.

Grimaldi overtook USA's Eva Fabian down the stretch to win in 2:02:49.5. Fabian, who had led nearly the entire race, settled for second with a 2:02:50.0. Brazil's Poliana Okimoto surged down the finish to take third in 2:02:51.2. Okimoto was never registered in the top three at any point of the race until the finish.

USA's Christine Jennings, who had hung in the top three most of the race, fell to fourth, while teammate Ashley Twichell did not compete due to the flu. Switzerland's Swann Oberson, the World 5K winner, fell back to 13th. Brazil's Ana Marcela Cunha, the winner of the controversial women's 25K at Worlds, finished in fifth today.
