Toomey, a two-time NCAA finalist in the 50 free, said his most memorable moment on the Golden Gophers team happened in his freshman year. Swimming on a relay with a senior teammate, he was inspired to break a barrier that he finally achieved in March.

Also a top student, he talked about being named the winner of the Medal of Honor from the Big Ten Conference, which picks the top student-athlete at each of the conference's university. Like most athletes, he has plans to work in physical therapy, but first is a goal of being at the top of the sprinting ranks in the United States.
