Poll of the Week: Deserving Laureus Award Nominees (Results)

PHOENIX, Arizona, March 12. A couple of weeks ago, the Laureus Award nominees did not feature a swimmer in the category of Sportsman of the Year, despite some very exceptional performances last year. We thought we would ask readers who should have been included in the list of nominees, and I guess it should come as no surprise that Ryan Lochte got the most votes in this poll with 61.2 percent. Lochte won two individual gold medals at last summer’s world championships as well as a gold in the 800 free relay. Chad Le Clos also won two individual gold medals last summer, but it didn’t help him garner as many votes as Lochte. The South African got 21.6 percent. Yannick Agnel was a big boost for the French team, helping them win the 400 free relay as well as taking the gold in the 200 freestyle. Voters weren’t as taken with Agnel in our poll, with the Frenchman getting 17.2 percent of votes.

The NCAA women’s Division I swimming and diving championships are about a week away, and we’re curious which team you think will win the team title. On paper it looks like it could be a close three-way battle, but which one will be holding the trophy when the meet is over? Will it be reigning champion Georgia that takes another championship title, or will it be Cal looking to get back on top for the first time since 2012? Texas A&M has never won an NCAA team title, and they will be in the hunt as well with some stellar swimmers. Or, will it be another team that sneaks in to win it all? Go to our home page at swimmingworld.com and place your vote on the right side of the page. We’ll have this poll active until March 19 and bring you the results on our next Poll of the Week segment.
