PHOENIX, Arizona, July 23. LAST weekend at various meets around the country, we saw several national age group records fall in individual and relay events. The one that stood out to us most took place not far from here at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Arizona. At the state age group championships, Seth Chun of Arizona Gold was dominant in the 200 butterfly in the 11-12 age group, tying the national age group mark with an amazing 2:14.40. The record was set back in 2008 by Ryan Murphy, who is doing great things in the backstroke events now, but obviously had some strong butterfly prowess when he was younger.
We're not going to make comparisons to Michael Phelps, as much as they may be warranted. Seth's swim deserves to be honored on its own merits, and watching his effortless stroke it's easy to believe that we'll see more from him as he grows.
Congratulations, Seth. You've won our Speedo Performance of the Week.
