PHOENIX, Arizona, July 16. WE continue our special series talking to swimming coaches on opposite sides of the United States on today's edition of The Morning Swim Show.
Today's interview features Lou Manganiello of the AK Sharks in Miami. He talks about growing the team from a swim school to a full-fledged age group team. That team includes the Smiddy siblings, who recently participated in the USA Swimming nationals and have become an inspiration to their teammates, Manganiello said. Coaching a swim team in south Florida is easy because people are naturally attracted to swimming there, he says, and being on the Atlantic Ocean allows for the opportunity to grow his young athletes into open water swimmers -- provided the team can get over the many hurdles involving training and racing in open water.
